|Copper Beech - Fagus sylvatica 'purpurea' (56" diameter, weight 350,000-400,000 pounds)
This historic tree needed to be moved 120 feet, because of a new condominium development. It was originally brought to the U.S. by steamship, moved from Chicago to Plymouth, Michigan when it was fifty years old; this was a very special tree in the neighborhood. We root pruned in spring, undercut in late summer and moved in early December. A new modular sled system was used successfully instead of cranes.
