Japanese Maple - Acer palmatum (24 diameter, 30 foot tall by 30 foot wide, weight 27.5 tons)
This tree is one of the largest Japanese Maples in the country. It is located just outside Harvard Square in Boston, Massachusetts. A local builder chose to save this extraordinary tree and move it 50 feet rather than cut it down, during the process of constructing an addition on a residence. The tree frame packaging system shown in the photo is meant to maintain continuity through the tree planting process by keeping the root ball intact.
